Our client is seeking an experienced Civil Materials Engineer to join their team in Upington . This role is crucial for ensuring the quality and performance of construction materials used in major infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for specifying materials, conducting laboratory and field testing, and providing technical guidance on material selection and application. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of material science, construction practices, and quality assurance procedures, ensuring that all materials meet project specifications and contribute to the long-term durability and safety of structures within the Northern Cape region.
Key Responsibilities- Specify construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, steel, and aggregates for various civil engineering projects.
- Develop and implement material testing plans, including laboratory and field testing procedures.
- Analyze test results and provide recommendations on material suitability and compliance.
- Oversee material quality control and assurance processes on construction sites.
- Investigate material failures or performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and project teams regarding material specifications and quality.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Materials Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA is preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in civil materials engineering and quality control.
- Knowledge of relevant material standards (e.g., SANS, ASTM) and testing methodologies.
- Experience with concrete mix design, asphalt technology, and aggregate characterization.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex test data.
