Senior Reservoir Engineer - Solar Power Initiative

Our client, a pioneering force in the renewable energy sector, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Reservoir Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is a critical role focused on optimizing the performance and longevity of our advanced solar energy storage systems. You will be instrumental in analyzing subsurface geological data, fluid dynamics, and thermal properties to ensure maximum energy capture and efficiency from our innovative solar thermal reservoirs.

The successful candidate will work closely with geologists, geophysicists, and project managers to develop and implement groundbreaking strategies for energy extraction and management. This position is based in the arid, sun-drenched region of Upington, Northern Cape , a location renowned for its exceptional solar irradiance, making it an ideal hub for cutting‑edge solar technology development and deployment.

• Conduct comprehensive reservoir characterization studies using geological, geophysical, and engineering data.
• Develop and implement advanced reservoir simulation models to predict performance and optimize extraction strategies.
• Analyze well performance data and implement remediation plans to enhance production and minimize downtime.
• Design and oversee field development plans, including well placement and injection/production strategies.
• Monitor and manage reservoir pressures, temperatures, and fluid properties to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
• Collaborate with the R&D team on the design and implementation of new reservoir technologies.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
• Analyze the impact of subsurface conditions on solar energy capture efficiency and storage capacity.

• A Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in reservoir engineering, with a strong emphasis on geothermal or thermal energy storage systems.
• Proven expertise in reservoir simulation software (e.g., Eclipse, TOUGH2, STOMP).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and subsurface geology.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with a keen eye for detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience in project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Familiarity with solar energy technologies and storage systems is a significant advantage.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.
