Position overview:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Draughtsperson with strong drafting skills and practical electrical design experience to join our Electrical Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate electrical drawings and models for a variety of building services, municipal electrification and electrical infrastructure projects. The position requires proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Retic Master, together with the ability to undertake basic electrical design calculations, including cable sizing, voltage drop and load calculations.
Working closely with electrical engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, the successful candidate will ensure that drawings comply with project requirements, applicable standards and company quality procedures.
Electrical Building Services
- Develop and maintain accurate electrical drawings and 3D Revit models for building services projects.
- Prepare electrical layouts and drawings for:
- Lighting systems
- Small power installations
- Distribution boards
- Cable containment systems
- Earthing and lightning protection
- Fire detection systems
- Security systems
- Access control
- CCTV
- Data and communication services
- Emergency lighting
- Generate 2D drawings, plans, sections, elevations, schedules and details from Revit models.
- Prepare detailed electrical construction drawings and as-built drawings.
- Prepare electrical drawings for municipal and rural electrification projects.
- Develop low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) electrical reticulation layouts.
- Prepare overhead and underground electrical distribution network drawings.
- Produce drawings for substations, transformers, distribution kiosks and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Prepare street lighting layouts and associated electrical installation details.
- Develop single line diagrams, cable routing layouts and electrical distribution drawings.
- Utilise Retic Master for electrical reticulation design and drafting.
- Prepare and update construction and as-built drawings for electrical infrastructure projects.
- National Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Multi-disciplinary Drawing Office Practice, Engineering Drawing, Draughting or a related qualification.
- Minimum 4 years' relevant experience in electrical drafting and design.
- Proven experience in both electrical building services and electrical infrastructure / electrification projects.
- Practical experience in electrical reticulation design using Retic Master.
- Ability to undertake basic electrical design calculations, including cable sizing, voltage drop and load calculations.
- Experience preparing LV and MV electrical distribution layouts, single line diagrams and associated electrical installation details.
- Experience producing electrical building services drawings using Revit.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary consulting engineering projects.
- Knowledge of South African building services standards and drawing practices.
- Experience in the following software:
- Autodesk Revit (essential)
- Autodeks AutoCAD
- Retic Master
- BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud (advantageous)
- Relux
