Civil Engineer - Road and Pavement Design

Our client, a well-established engineering consultancy with a strong presence in civil infrastructure, is seeking a Civil Engineer specializing in road and pavement design to join their team in
** Upington, Northern Cape**. This role is crucial for developing and improving transportation networks in the region. You will be responsible for the geometric design of roads, pavement analysis and design, drainage design, and contributing to the preparation of tender documentation. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of road construction principles and relevant design standards, coupled with strong analytical and project execution skills.

• Perform geometric design of rural and urban roads, including alignments, intersections, and interchanges.
• Conduct pavement condition assessments and design new or rehabilitated pavement structures.
• Develop road drainage designs, including culverts and stormwater management systems.
• Prepare detailed design reports, specifications, and construction drawings using CAD software.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and Bills of Quantities.
• Coordinate with other disciplines such as structural and geotechnical engineers.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, including site inspections.
• Ensure compliance with national road design standards (e.g., SANRAL, DOT standards).
• Participate in project planning and client liaison.
• Mentor junior engineers working on road design projects.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration with ECSA is advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in road and pavement design.
• Proficiency in relevant civil engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil Designer, Pavement design software).
• Good understanding of road construction materials and methods.
• Knowledge of relevant South African design standards and regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and report-writing abilities.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to

• Valid driver's license.
