Pharmaceutical Process Development Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Pharmaceutical Process Development Chemist to join their innovative team in Mahikeng . This role focuses on the development, optimization, and scale-up of chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will play a crucial part in translating laboratory-scale syntheses into robust, cost-effective, and safe manufacturing processes. This hybrid position allows for collaborative work in the lab and remote data analysis and reporting, offering a dynamic work experience.

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs, focusing on efficiency, yield, purity, and scalability.
• Conduct process research and development studies, including reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and impurity profiling.
• Scale-up chemical processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during process development and scale-up.
• Characterize APIs and intermediates using analytical techniques such as NMR, MS, HPLC, and GC.
• Author process development reports, validation protocols, and regulatory submission documents.

• Master's or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical process development or synthetic organic chemistry.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and purification techniques.
• Experience with process safety assessments (e.g., HAZOP, reaction calorimetry).
• Proficiency in analytical techniques for chemical characterization.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
