Senior Research Scientist - Polymer Chemistry

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Research Scientist with expertise in Polymer Chemistry to join their advanced materials research division in Mahikeng . This role is instrumental in the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel polymers for diverse applications. You will leverage your deep understanding of polymerization techniques and polymer properties to drive innovation and contribute to the development of next-generation materials.

• Design and synthesize novel polymers using various polymerization techniques (e.g., free radical, condensation, living polymerization).
• Characterize polymer structures, molecular weights, and thermal properties using techniques like GPC, DSC, TGA, and NMR.
• Investigate the structure-property relationships of synthesized polymers to tailor material performance.
• Develop and optimize polymer formulations for specific applications in collaboration with engineers and product developers.
• Troubleshoot synthetic and characterization challenges, proposing innovative solutions.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in polymer science and contribute to intellectual property generation.

• Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in polymer synthesis and characterization.
• Demonstrated expertise in various polymerization methods and polymer analysis techniques.
• Strong understanding of polymer physics and material properties.
• Experience with processing techniques for polymers (e.g., extrusion, molding) is a plus.
