Opthalmic Technician – Pacific Eye Institute

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for attending to patients in a timely and professional manner while providing a first‑class customer service experience with all patients. The Ophthalmic Technician performs measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position may see patients for our provider within their skill set.

• Greet all patients and guests with the highest level of customer service and care in accordance with company standards. Anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation. Treat each patient with respect by greeting them by name, introducing yourself, and ensuring that the patient understands tests, procedures, and the process during the exam.
• Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.
• Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of ophthalmology terms, conditions and clinical flow preferred.
• Professional verbal communication skills, demonstrating ability to educate patients in a friendly and positive manner.
• Ability to clearly document activities in Electronic Medical Records system preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to move between and progress tasks forward.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Typing, computer and data entry.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience in an Ophthalmology or Optometry setting.

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certification Preferred.
• BLS certificate.
