LAS Career Services provides students in all departments across LAS with career information, resources, and opportunities targeted to their strengths and skills, so that improved graduate outcomes reflect the full range of intellectual and creative activity in the College.

This position is primarily dedicated to developing resources for and directly providing career services to nontraditional and returning adult students who are pursuing degree and certificate programs in the College of LAS (e.g., the recently established online Bachelors of Liberal Studies program). The Senior Career Advisor collaborates with College administrators to review program enrollments, track student background characteristics, and understand student career development needs.

With this information, they develop resources delivered via websites, Canvas, listservs, and virtual events. They also support students throughout their college experience as they explore opportunities, and develop and implement post‑graduate plans.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Curates, develops, and maintains career education resources and instructional materials catering to the needs of non‑traditional and returning adult students, including those who may be remote or online learners.
  • Develops and maintains content for website, Canvas courses, office event calendars, and other career services communications.
  • Plans and coordinates LAS Career Services communications, including curating and disseminating information about jobs, internships, opportunities, resources, programming, and events.
  • Provides career advising and group programming to prospective and current non‑traditional and returning adult students, as well as recent program alumni (within one year of graduation) via appointments, drop‑ins, online presentations, and virtual events addressing a wide variety of topics.
  • Supports the professional training of career services and related supportive staff within the College of LAS, helping them to better meet the unique career development needs of non‑traditional and returning adult students.
  • Supports data collection and storytelling efforts to communicate career development needs and service impacts, as specifically tailored to non‑traditional and returning adult students.
  • Collaborates with programs administrators to review program enrollments, as well as to understand student background characteristics and career development needs.
  • Supports collection and reporting of yearly data of usage on programs and services within LAS Career Services.
  • Contributes to other duties that support the common mission of LAS Student Academic Affairs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years in education, training and/or work experience in student education administration. Demonstrated experience in career services in a university, community college or workforce development setting. (

    Note:

    Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.) Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in relevant field such as career development, counseling, psychology, education, student development, or academic affairs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or humanities field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience leading an advising or coaching program for diverse populations, including adult career changers and returning students, in a relevant area such as career coaching, academic advising, transfer student services, among other areas.
  • Experience working with adult career changers who are navigating the complex interactions of vocational, educational, emotional, family, social, and financial wellness.
  • Experience evaluating and developing educational materials, preferably focused on communicating career management or career development skills.
