Clinical Assistant Professor, Companion Animal Nutrition
POSITION SUMMARYThis position is available through a strategic departmental hiring plan to strengthen education and outreach in companion animal nutrition and health. The successful candidate will focus on advancing knowledge and application of nutrition for dogs, cats, and other companion species, supporting the growing pet industry and student interest in this field. We seek an outstanding educator and practitioner who will contribute to innovative teaching, experiential learning, and Extension programs that promote optimal nutrition and well‑being for companion animals.
MAJORDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in companion animal nutrition and related areas, provide leadership in providing experiential learning opportunities including research and industry engagement for both undergraduate and graduate students, advise students and contribute to curriculum development to meet growing demand for companion animal‑focused coursework and certificate programs, collaborate with faculty and industry partners to advance Extension, outreach, and continuing education programs, and participate in departmental service to support the mission of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
POSITIONREQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
Required:
- Ph.D. in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or a closely related field focused on companion animal nutrition.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, mentoring, and guiding students at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
Preferred:
- Postdoctoral training with experience in a clinical or applied setting, including diet formulation and nutritional studies.
- Commitment to Extension, outreach, and community engagement to promote knowledge transfer and real‑world impact.
- Strong collaborative skills, with experience working effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and teaching effectiveness.
- Demonstrates ability to translate scientific research into practical applications for professionals, stakeholders, and the general public.
This is a full‑time (100 FTE, 9‑month) specialized faculty appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for the position is $65,000 to $80,000. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
