Position: 504/MTSS Coordinator

504/MTSS Coordinator

University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign – University Laboratory High School

The University Laboratory High School is a 5‑year public school serving approximately 325 select students. The 504/MTSS Coordinator provides leadership and support in the development, implementation, and monitoring of interventions and accommodations for students with disabilities or other support needs, and works toward a laboratory mission of innovative curriculum development, outreach, and professional engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Student Intervention & Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
    • Oversee systems of classroom interventions through observations, collaboration with staff, and teacher training.
    • Serve as a secondary support and oversee space for students with accommodations or immediate intervention needs.
    • Work closely with the Student Services Office (SSO) to coordinate, monitor, and implement the Wellness Room as a supportive space for students.
  • 504 Coordination & Compliance
    • Oversee the creation, writing, and implementation of Section 504 plans.
    • Schedule and lead meetings with staff, families, and/or administration regarding 504 eligibility, accommodations, and grievances.
    • Maintain accurate records of 504 plans and ensure compliance with federal, state, and school policies.
    • Distinguish between 504 responsibilities and IEP/special education roles; serve as a point of contact for referrals to home districts for evaluation, testing, or special education questions.
  • Collaboration & Training
    • Support teachers with classroom interventions and overall differentiation.
    • Participate in regular meetings with the SSO, administration, and other relevant parties regarding student needs and interventions.
    • Provide professional development and ongoing training for teachers and staff on 504 compliance, MTSS interventions, and classroom accommodations.
  • Monitoring & Advocacy
    • Assess students’ needs, monitor progress, and adjust plans as necessary.
    • Advocate for students’ access to appropriate resources, supports, and accommodations.
    • Provide feedback to administration on systemic needs, trends, and resource gaps.
    • Assist in addressing grievances or complaints related to disability accommodations.
Qualifications
  • Required:
    • Master’s degree in Education, Psychology or related field.
    • Knowledge of Section 504 regulations, IDEA, MTSS, and best practices in student intervention and support.
    • 3 years of experience in a school setting.
  • Preferred: Licensed School Psychologist, Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1), or related licensure.

  • Strong understanding of Section 504, IDEA, and MTSS frameworks.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple student plans and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Conflict resolution, problem‑solving, and advocacy abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism at all times.
  • School‑based position with collaboration across classrooms, Student Services Office, and administration.
  • Regular meetings with families and staff, with occasional coordination with outside agencies and home districts.
Appointment Information

100% full‑time Academic Professional position. Expected start date:
August 16, 2026. Salary range: $60,000‑$85,000. Work authorization sponsorship not available.
