Overview
The Deaf Educator plans and facilitates student learning across the school day, focusing on maximizing listening and spoken language development during academic, social, and developmental activities. This role is supported by the CAOS (Carle Auditory Oral School) supervisor, academic program coordinator, and ECHO Program Manager.
Qualifications
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Illinois PEL or ELS within 1 year - Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education
Essential Functions
- Plans curricula based on Illinois Learning Standards, Illinois Early Learning Standards, and CAOS curriculum.
- Establishes classroom routines and manages behavior with support from senior deaf educators and CAOS supervisor.
- Collaborates with parents and speech therapists to support child's development and skill acquisition at home and school.
- Develops and documents daily activities tailored to each child's current performance levels in cognition, communication, academic, and social areas.
- Selects language and vocabulary targets, ensuring audition is the primary learning pathway, with activities providing repeated practice.
- Maintains and facilitates sensory devices such as cochlear implants, hearing aids, BAHA, and FM systems.
- Participates in school-wide and grade-level activities and committees.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly wage range is $23.30 - $38.91, depending on experience and qualifications. Carle Health provides a comprehensive benefits package. More details are available lehealth.org/benefits.
