The Energy Advisor II is responsible for delivering assigned services in accordance with the Agency Vision, Mission, and Values and applicable program contract, manuals, and guidelines. The candidate works closely with program partners, contractors, utility stakeholders, and qualified applicants to develop energy savings projects for the residents of Champaign County and Central Illinois. Activities include conducting residential energy assessments and supporting utility‑driven energy efficiency programs such as the Illinois Home Weatherization Program.
The Advisor coordinates and conducts home energy assessments for program participants, analyzes client energy needs, provides energy education, installs energy savings measures, and develops residential energy‑efficiency and weatherization projects. Additionally, the Advisor performs energy efficiency and safety testing, installs measures (LED light bulbs, faucet aerators and shower heads, smart thermostats), completes and submits program documents, and participates in outreach and awareness activities.
- Completion of the 11‑week formal IHWAP Training and Certification Program and Quality Control Inspector (QCI) certification (or ability to achieve within 90 days of hire date)
- Building Performance Institute Energy Auditor and Quality Control Inspector certifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Champaign County and Central Illinois as needed
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Proficient in English (spelling, punctuation, grammar)
- Spanish language fluency desirable; second language fluency a plus
- Ability to manage and maintain product inventory, equipment, and company vehicles
- Accuracy and timeliness in filling out program documents
- User‑level knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and report generation
- Computer skills for data entry and generating data reports in various formats to support program analysis and reporting
- Ability to communicate home assessment findings and energy‑efficiency opportunities to a team of contractors
- Knowledge and respect for diverse cultures/lifestyles and the challenges associated with poverty
- Ability to balance client needs with program rules and regulations
- Writing and mathematical skills sufficient for all paperwork requirements
- Ability to obtain weatherization certifications within twelve months of employment
- Ability to travel to and navigate worksites regularly to perform duties with little oversight
- Flexibility to work a schedule accommodating special projects as needed
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Physical capacity to lift testing equipment (≈40 lbs.), climb stairs and ladders, and work in confined spaces
