Overview

The University Housing Facilities Planning team is looking for a skilled construction project manager to oversee architectural and MEP projects across the campus's housing assets.

Job Summary

This multi-level search will fill one position. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate may be hired at the Construction Project Manager I or II level.

Construction Project Manager I

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for budgeting, designing, estimating, scheduling, and managing architectural and/or MEP construction projects and repair work, as well as other facilities issues in connection with architectural and/or MEP systems from conceptualization through completion, in University Housing facilities.
  • Serve as the main point of contact and lead in the interface with University project managers, project coordinator, other University Housing Facilities Planning staff, project architects and engineers to provide pertinent technical information for consideration and/or inclusion in final design plans.
  • Prepare, or assist in the preparation of, architectural and/or MEP drawings and specifications for construction documents, bids, addenda, and change orders, and as requested, review and provide feedback on plans and specifications provided by Facilities and Services staff.
  • Inspect, analyze, survey, troubleshoot and recommend design solutions related to general building construction, plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical systems and structural work within University Housing structures and onsite general building conditions and MEP utilities.
  • Review and verify architectural and/or MEP drawings, specifications and equipment for new construction and renovations to ensure consistency throughout all construction documents.
  • Monitors schedule, observation of construction, and reports on progress and budget in connection to architectural and/or MEP engineering design and construction for new buildings and remodeling of existing buildings. Evaluate and report to Housing stakeholders comprehensive project plans/designs, and progress updates on architectural and/or MEP engineering components of University Housing projects.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of project shop drawings in relation to conformance with contract documents and design intent of projects. Ensure the installation, inspection, and testing of general construction materials and/or MEP equipment and fixtures meet construction document requirements, and provide end of project punch list as needed.
  • Ensure all proposed new and renovated facilities meet building codes, regulations and other legal requirements related to architectural and/or MEP systems.
  • Participates in review of Housing facilities and the development of Housing Long Range Facilities Master Plan.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of commercial construction management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction projects from design through completion.
  • NOTE:

    Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Three (3) years knowledge in the application of Architectural or MEP disciplines such as: AIA, ASHRAE Commissioning, Process Management (CPMP), ASHRAE Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), and USGBC LEED APBD+C.
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Microsoft Project (or similar) software.
  • Extensive working knowledge of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems engineering within university housing facilities.
  • Working knowledge of current State of Illinois Building, Life Safety, Accessibility, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical and Fire Protection codes.
