Starting wages effective July 1, 2023 through and including June 30, 2024:
Starting at $70,529.11 annually The base salary for a probationary employee shall be $1,200 less than the annual salary for a full-time Police Officer.

The City of Urbana invites qualified applicants for the position of Experienced Police Officer. The ideal candidate for this position will: be able to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others; possess excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and interpersonal skills; have a desire to help and serve others; demonstrate honesty and integrity; have close attention to detail;
will be reliable, responsible, dependable and fulfill obligations; be able to tolerate highly stressful situations calmly and effectively; maintain composure and keep emotions in check, even in very difficult situations; be open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace; and be understanding and helpful on the job.
Successful candidates in this occupation will be comfortable following set procedures and routines, and a clear line of authority to follow; frequently working with, communicating with, and teaching people; helping or providing service to others; taking risks; leading others; and working with practical, hands‑on problems and solutions.

Minimumqualifications include:
- At least two years of experience as a full‑time sworn street patrol officer. Non‑patrol sworn officer experience, such as jail/corrections, dispatch, or private security work does not count as "street patrol experience" in calculating the total months of post‑academy experience.
- Currently employed as a sworn police officer (or recently released or facing release, due to layoff or reduction in force, with the ability to be re‑hired).
- No maximum age limit if previously employed by a municipality; or if you have served as a sworn officer of the Illinois Department of State Police; or if you have served as a deputy under Section 3‑6008 of the Counties Code and otherwise meets necessary training requirements. Otherwise, you must be at least 21 years of age and no more than 34 years of age (by closing date of job posting) unless you have prior military experience.
Applicants may exceed the age of 35 years by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty. - Must meet a residency requirement of residing within a fifteen‑mile radius of the City of Urbana within the 6‑month probation period.
