Overview
The Pulmonary Function Technologist performs a full range of pulmonary function diagnostic testing using a variety of equipment modalities. Assesses and instructs patient in correct procedures for optimal results. Performs therapeutic services as indicated.
Qualifications- Education Level: College Diploma
- Field of Study: Respiratory Therapy
- Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Licenses/Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Licenses/Certifications: Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) within 2 years – National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Licenses/Certifications: Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) within 2 years – National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Work Experience: Respiratory therapy – 1+ years
- Keyboard skills/typing/phone skills.
- General clerical skills including ability to use a fax machine, copier, etc.
- Communication skills, written and verbal.
- Completes a full range of pulmonary function testing; administers respiratory care modalities and monitors effects of therapy.
- Performs accurate documentation.
- Prepares patient for transportation and transport.
- Full range of Pulmonary Function Testing including specialty testing: basic spirometry, pre and post spirometry; lung volumes, diffusion capacity;
Aridol/Exercise Asthma Challenge Testing, Methacholine Asthma Challenge, arterial blood gases, and FeNO; pulse oximetry testing for oxygen qualification or re-certification; 6‑minute walk simple pulmonary stress testing. - Performs accurate documentation in EPIC electronic medical record. Fax required testing information to outside referrals and DME companies (home O2 qualify/re certification).
- Performs quality control / calibration on all pulmonary function equipment.
- Prepares test reports and facilitates patient follow‑up appointments with provider.
- Educates patients on disease processes, medications, and delivery methods.

The compensation range for this position is $29.1 per hour – $50.05 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
