Senior HR Generalist - College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign is hiring one or two Senior Human Resources Generalists to support the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) leading 15,000 students, 1,300 faculty and staff, and more than 186,000 alumni. The senior HR Generalist offers strategic HR guidance and manages complex HR issues within a designated portfolio, with a focus on visa and green‑card processing and potential mentoring activities.
Job SummaryThe Senior HR Generalist manages a variety of HR activities, provides strategic guidance, and handles complex HR‑related issues.
Duties include:
- HR Information Systems and Appointments Management – manage employee appointments, records, integrations, data entry, reporting, and data integrity.
- Job Classification and Analysis – oversee classification and analysis processes, develop internal classification strategies, and recommend title changes.
- HR Compliance and Policy – ensure adherence to HR policies and legal requirements, develop and implement compliance strategies, and provide expertise on policies.
- Recruitment and Talent Acquisition – independently coordinate search, hiring, and onboarding; communicate with applicants and hiring managers; guide search strategies; oversee advertising and branding.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a closely related field.
- Three (3) years of professional‑level HR experience.
- Minimum of three years progressive experience with HR policy research, interpretation, and recommendation.
- Visa processing experience.
- Union environment experience, including contract language interpretation.
- Computer skills and rapid learning of new programs.
- Experience supporting HR at the University of Illinois‑Urbana Champaign.
- Knowledge of ISTART visa application, BANNER, HRFE, Cornerstone, JDxpert, I‑9 Tracker, ANA, PARIS, Webi or similar tech.
- Strong customer‑service orientation, organizational and time‑management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication, discretion, confidentiality, problem‑solving, and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to inclusiveness and positive relationships with stakeholders.
Full‑time (100% FTE) Human Resources Associate, 12‑month appointment, up to two positions. Expected start date: as soon as possible after the deadline. Salary range: $63,000 – $75,000. Eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote and in‑person) after initial on‑site training.
