Industrial Maintenance Technician
Position Title: Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Plant Manager
Shift: First (5:00am - 3:30pm) (some flexibility)
Location: Dura Shield, Urbana, OH
Position SummaryTo ensure the plant & equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets, cost, quality & delivery. This position works within multiple areas and requires a high degree of self‑direction. Close working relations with technical & production departments will be essential to ensure production is supported at all times.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Inspect the repairs, replacements, installations, and adjustments of the Press Machines.
- Ensure the maintenance of all mechanical equipment in the steel foundry environment.
- Welds to repair broken parts, fabricate new parts and assemble components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and detailed repair drawings related to manufacturing equipment and machinery.
- Inspect equipment when required for repair or transportation.
- Ensure a safe environment to avoid contamination or workplace safety hazards.
- Inspect to confirm correct calibrations of machinery and equipment parts as required for efficient and safe operation.
- Use hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
- Test units to evaluate their mechanical operation.
- Confer with operators and observe, test and evaluate operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Disassemble machinery to remove parts and make repairs.
- Examine parts for defects such as breakage or excessive wear.
- Repair, replace, adjust and align components of multiple machines. This involves getting on knees, climbing into and on press, working from a ladder up to 13 feet.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and frequently push and pull 20–30 pounds of force in moving machinery parts.
- Work in awkward positions to climb in and on machinery.
- Constant use of tools weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Perform test runs on repaired machinery.
- Fabricate replacement parts.
- Repair or replace electrical wiring.
- Perform weekly lubrication and inspections on machinery.
- Clean equipment, order parts and maintain record keeping.
- High School Diploma preferred.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of powered tools.
- Ability to fabricate and weld.
- Strong spatial orientation: imagine how something will look after it is moved or rearranged.
- Capability to make precise adjustments in moving machine controls accurately.
- Excellent observational skills for details at close range.
- Strong written comprehension and communication skills.
- Fine motor coordination.
- Basic mathematical literacy.
- Effective communication skills.
- Coordination of multiple limb movements.
- Flexibility, stretch, twist, and reach.
- Other duties may be required.
