Groups is a leading outpatient provider specializing in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. We are committed to supporting underserved communities hit hardest by the opioid crisis. Since 2014, our local care teams have guided hundreds of thousands of individuals on their path to recovery, helping them reclaim their purpose and dignity through compassionate, collaborative care.

Our evidence‑based approach combines medication, group therapy, and personalized support, delivered online and in person by local providers. Founded on the belief that recovery extends beyond the traditional office visit, Groups helps members build a foundation for long‑term recovery and the fulfilling lives they want and deserve.

Together with our community partners, public agencies, and health plans, we are raising the bar in addiction health care—and we’re just getting started.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting intakes. Physicians see patients after they have already undergone an extensive evaluation by the counselor.
  • Monitor patients’ clinical progress at regular group counseling sessions. Groups are run by specialized counseling staff; physicians participate by answering questions and managing patients’ medication dosing.
  • Authorize patients’ prescriptions during monthly visits with patient panels.
  • Complete all notes and reporting in the Groups EMR system within the required timeline. Providers receive full orientation/training on Clinical Protocols before eligible to begin work with Groups.
  • Utilize strict protocols to guide clinical decision‑making. Our unique, technology‑driven and team‑based clinical system handles all day‑to‑day patient management and regulatory compliance, allowing physicians to focus exclusively on medical management.
Qualifications
  • Active, unencumbered state license (MD/DO) in Iowa.
  • Active, individual DEA with address listed in Iowa. (If the physician intends to prescribe in multiple states, a separate DEA is required in each state.)
  • Minimum 1 year direct experience prescribing buprenorphine, with proof of completion of the 8‑hour DEA training required of previous DEAX designation holders.
  • Board certification in addiction medicine preferred; other specialties are welcome to apply with relevant experience.
  • Hospital admitting privileges required.
  • Iowa residency required.
