As a Building Inspector, you'll be responsible for inspecting a variety of building permits issued by Roosevelt City - residential, duplex, mobile homes, modular homes, demolition permits, sign permits, and more. You'll verify compliance with city building and zoning ordinances, ensure safety standards are met for water, sewer, utility connections, foundation and structure, and review owner-builder contracts when applicable. On a typical day, you might visit a residential or commercial building site, inspect ongoing construction or remodels, review permit applications, check compliance with local codes and utility requirements (like meter placement or sewer backwater devices), and document your findings - all to ensure safe, code-compliant construction that meets the City's standards.
Workschedule
As part of City staff, you will generally follow Roosevelt City business hours:
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional extended hours - for example, the City extends Tuesday hours to 8 p.m. to accommodate community needs.
To be considered for the Building Inspector position, you should have relevant experience with building inspections or construction oversight. You should be familiar with building codes, residential and commercial permit requirements, utility and zoning regulations, and able to conduct site inspections professionally and thoroughly. Strong attention to detail, good communication, and the ability to work independently and with municipal staff is essential.
