Direct message the job poster from OxEon Energy

OxEon Energy is advancing cutting‑edge energy conversion technologies that transform CO₂ and renewable feed stocks into clean fuels, hydrogen, and critical industrial products. Our platform integrates solid oxide electrolysis, plasma reforming, and Fischer‑Tropsch synthesis to enable next‑generation fuel production and industrial decarbonization. As we scale from laboratory systems to commercial pilot plants, we are expanding our mechanical engineering team to support system design, testing, and deployment.

Job

Purpose

The Mechanical Engineering Analyst will lead the analytical foundation of OxEon’s custom equipment design and scale‑up efforts. This role is responsible for developing concepts and engineering requirements, performing the calculations and simulations needed to verify design performance, and ensuring systems meet program objectives, safety criteria, and applicable industry standards. The Analyst will generate engineering documentation, calculation packages, and specifications that guide the mechanical design process, and will coordinate with OxEon’s mechanical engineering team to transition these requirements into detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings.

This position is central to scaling one‑of‑a‑kind energy systems from prototype to pilot plant, ensuring designs are technically sound, reliable, and ready for fabrication and deployment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical and structural analyses, including stress, fatigue, load, thermal, and fluid/pressure evaluations.
  • Develop analytical models and simulations to support design decisions (e.g., FEA/CFD tools).
  • Support component sizing, material selection, and design optimization for high‑temperature and pressure systems.
  • Analyze piping, pressure vessels, manifolds, heat exchangers, and mechanical subassemblies.
  • Assist in mechanical design of assemblies, fixtures, prototypes, and pilot plant equipment.
  • Generate and interpret 2D/3D models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation (CAD).
  • Support tolerance stack‑ups, GD&T, and configuration control.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (process, electrical, controls, manufacturing).
Test & Validation
  • Develop test plans, procedures, and instrumentation requirements.
  • Support execution of bench‑scale and pilot‑scale mechanical tests, including data capture and analysis.
  • Evaluate component performance, reliability, failure modes, and design improvements.
Technical Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare engineering reports, calculation packages, design summaries, and presentation materials.
  • Maintain design records, test logs, BOM updates, and change documentation.
  • Support design reviews, hazard assessments, and readiness gates.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure designs align with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ASTM, UL, B31.3).
  • Support risk assessments, thermal/pressure safety analysis, and reliability evaluations.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and supplier interface as needed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Experience Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
    • 1–5+ years of engineering experience (co‑op/research/project experience considered).
    • Experience with mechanical analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, or similar).
    • Strong analytical, technical writing, and problem‑solving skills.
    • Ability to work hands‑on with prototypes, test fixtures, and mechanical hardware.
  • Preferred Experience Requirements
    • Experience with thermal/fluid systems, pressure systems, or high‑temperature materials.
    • Knowledge of gas processing, energy systems, fuel cells, or electrolysis technologies.
    • Familiarity with pilot plant equipment, P&IDs, and process/mechanical integration.
    • Experience with FEA/CFD scripting, automation, or data processing (MATLAB/Python).
    • Understanding of manufacturing methods (machining, welding, additive, brazing).
    • Exposure to industry or regulatory standards for pressure and process systems.
Physical Requirements

Much of the work is at a desk. Occasionally lifting weight not to exceed 20 pounds. Work in Office, R&D laboratories, and manufacturing environments.
