- Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design and operation of product, including structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs.
- Analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowables, and structural modeling.
- Use tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, NX and other software applications.
- Assess the structural integrity of rocket propulsion systems and related components using traditional closed‑form methods as well as finite element techniques.
- Plan and oversee material characterization testing of various materials used in rocket design.
- Reduce structural characterization test data into analysis input properties and material capability properties.
- Prepare reports and memos documenting structural assessment activities and results.
- Prepare and make presentations summarizing structural assessment/analysis results for internal review boards and external customers.
- Perform assessment and develop disposition of discrepant hardware and hardware anomalies.
- Interact with design and development teams (Design, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Materials, Operations) to support innovative and creative design solutions that meet rocket motor requirements.
- BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering and 2 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 months of experience.
- FE analysis experience with MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering – emphasis in metal structures and solid mechanics or finite element theory.
- Familiarity with design and modeling software (NX).
- Strong and demonstrated communication, planning, project management, and presentation skills.
- Computer skills including NX, ANSYS (Classic or Workbench), and ABAQUS.
- Experience in finite element theory with emphasis in structural analysis, solid mechanics, including static strength, buckling, and bolted joint analysis.
Primary level salary range: $79,300.00 – $. Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as scope and responsibilities, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
