Job Summary

The I&C Commissioning Engineer plans, executes, and oversees instrumentation, controls, and SCADA commissioning throughout the full commissioning lifecycle, from loop checks and instrument calibration through DCS/SCADA verification, interlock testing, and handover to Operations. The role owns I&C and controls execution, including field instrumentation, DCS/PLC systems, SCADA, control logic, alarm management, and ORC and well field controls integration, while coordinating with electrical commissioning and Operations teams.

Job Description
  • Develop I&C commissioning plans, ITPs, procedures, test packages, work permits, and testing strategies.
  • Lead loop checks, point-to-point testing, instrument calibration, I/O verification, and signal validation.
  • Commission and verify DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems, including control logic, alarms, historian data, communications, and operator displays.
  • Perform functional testing of SIS functions, safety interlocks, and process trips, including verification of independence from BPCS where required.
  • Lead I&C commissioning for ORC package units and well field instrumentation and automation.
  • Coordinate integration between electrical protection systems and DCS/SCADA/PLC platforms.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, controls, and communication issues and coordinate resolution with OEMs and Engineering.
  • Support PHAs, FMEAs, PSSRs, readiness reviews, and integrated lifecycle risk reporting.
  • Maintain commissioning records, loop sheets, calibration records, test documentation, and as-built documentation.
  • Prepare commissioning completion and handover packages for Operations.
Skills Required
  • 7+ years of I&C and controls commissioning experience in power generation, process, or industrial facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with loop checks, instrument calibration, I/O verification, and functional testing.
  • Experience with DCS, PLC, and/or SCADA commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, and control narratives.
  • Experience with SIS/safety interlock commissioning and BPCS independence verification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with IEC 61511 / ANSI/ISA 84 preferred.
  • Project management, commissioning, or instrumentation certifications such as PMP, CxA, ISA CCST, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with utility-scale power generation projects preferred, including geothermal, conventional thermal, wind, or solar.
  • Geothermal plant controls, ORC package controls, well field instrumentation, downhole monitoring, or geothermal fluid chemistry experience preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA historian platforms such as OSIsoft PI, Ignition, or similar preferred.
  • Experience with commissioning software and loop check management platforms preferred
Education/Training/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline preferred; equivalent directly relevant commissioning experience may be considered.
Additional Requirements
  • Regular site presence required, with 25–75% travel expected depending on site activities.
Pay Rate/Salary
  • Pay Rate $90-100/ hr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
