SummaryThese positions are located in Inventory and Monitoring Data Networks, in the Natural Resource and Science I&M Division. The incumbent will perform routine and uncomplicated biological science tasks common to natural resource management. The typical seasonal entry‑on‑duty period is March‑September, variable due to weather, project needs or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
March 2026.
- Collect plant, soil, geomorphology, and other associated data using established network monitoring protocols.
- Accurately identify vegetation to the species level in the field or office using standard floras.
- Conduct fieldwork in remote backcountry settings and under difficult conditions in a safe and efficient manner.
- Enter data and follow quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate data transcription into established databases.
- Maintain field and camping equipment.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Participate in Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Operate a government (or private) motor vehicle; must present a valid State‑issued driver’s license and related documents upon first operation and annually thereafter.
- Work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Travel overnight up to 16 nights per month; must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes and may need to complete training to maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Minimum age requirements: 18 or 16 with high school completion or equivalent vocational training, or current secondary enrollment with part‑time work.
- Must be able to lift & carry 50 pounds.
By close of the announcement (01/01/2026) all qualifications must be met. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Resume must clearly indicate duties, responsibilities, employment dates and hours worked.
Minimum qualifications for GS‑05 level:
- At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑04 grade level in the Federal service.
- Successful completion of a full 4‑year bachelor’s degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours related to the position, with at least 6 semester hours directly related to the position.
- Or a combination of education and experience.
Minimum qualifications for GS‑06 level:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05 level.
- No substitution of education for experience at GS‑06 level.
Append volunteer experience that includes paid and unpaid work and follows federal credit guidelines.
Physical DemandsWork is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items up to 50 pounds must be lifted and carried on a routine basis.
Working ConditionsField work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals. The position is NOT suitable for telework.
