Controls Engineer (Afternoon Shift)
Shift: 3:00 PM — 11:00 PM
Job Type: Full-Time, Contract-to-hire
OverviewWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to support our facility with a focus on developing and maintaining equipment availability and performance. This role also supports continuous improvement efforts aimed at increasing machine efficiency and optimizing assembly processes.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with manufacturing and product teams to support machine integration with MES and CMMS systems
- Lead troubleshooting and maintenance escalation for machine failures, including documentation and communication
- Verify and maintain safety circuit functionality (light curtains, safety mats, QA devices)
- Develop operator interfaces and integrate them into MES systems
- Assist in defining equipment connections for data gathering and system integration
- Maintain backups of MES, PLC, and robot software configurations
- Research, implement, and improve processes to enhance efficiency and flexibility
- Program and configure assembly processes for new and existing equipment
- Support department troubleshooting, diagnostics, and controls projects
- Understand electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and their interaction within assembly cells
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics
- Adaptable to new controls technologies and software
- Ability to work efficiently with light supervision and communicate technical details clearly
- Knowledge of multi‑axis servo systems, robotic systems, and industrial vision systems (Cognex, Keyence)
- Basic networking knowledge and experience with Fieldbus technologies (Ethernet/IP, Ether
CAT, I/O Link, Modbus) - Experience interfacing with analog and fieldbus devices
- AutoCAD (electrical/pneumatic detailing)
- Rockwell Suite (Studio 5000, Factory Talk, RSLogix)
- Automation Direct (PLC, C‑More HMI)
- MS Office Suite
- Siemens Step 7
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or Associate’s degree in Robotic Automation/Computer Science
- Some on-the-job experience in controls, machine design, or machine build preferred (internship experience acceptable)
