Subsistence Research Specialist - PPT - Nuiqsut

Assists in research studies conducted by the North Slope Borough Department of Wildlife Management; performs a variety of fieldwork data collection and data entry.

• Conduct interviews with residents to record the number of fish and game taken for subsistence purposes.
• Prepare weekly reports and enter fieldwork data into the computer tracking system; code, review, and edit data as required.
• Maintain a daily journal that includes weather information, hunting activities of local and non‑local hunters, description of aircraft used by guides and hunters, and any unusual wildlife sightings.
• Maintain and update the list of community households and active hunters.
• Record the location of areas used for subsistence hunting activities.
• Conduct fieldwork projects as assigned; collect data, make observations, and assist in preparing project summary reports.
• Attend and participate in community meetings and training sessions as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school graduate or G.E.D., or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
• Three years of Arctic subsistence hunting experience.
• One year of report writing or customer service work experience.
• Knowledge of Borough and Wildlife Management Department policies and procedures.
