Clean room engineer

We’re looking for a Dev Ops Engineer to help build and maintain a largely autonomous “Cleanroom” environment for ransomware protection and recovery at a leading financial institution. This is the last line of defence: in the event of a successful ransomware attack, the environment you build allows rapid recovery of affected systems into ring‑fenced zones where they can be analysed, cleansed of malware, and safely restored to production.
You’ll work within an international Storage Services team, supporting, designing, implementing, automating and testing IT infrastructure and engineering applications, with a sharp focus on security. Your remit covers the protection and recovery of both application data and infrastructure configuration data. Cutting-edge technology, security, and extensive automation are central to the work. The role demands a versatile, curious mindset across a broad range of supporting technologies.
Key responsibilities   Deliver infrastructure improvements and new developments in security, recovery, and automation.
Support and optimise security and recovery across compute, converged, storage, backup and archive environments at scale – 21,000+ VMs and nearly 20 PB of data across Europe and the Americas, hosting thousands of applications and millions of end customers.
Work within a multi-disciplinary, international team, sharing knowledge and integrating with existing services across the department.
Ensure the Cleanroom systems meet stringent security standards.
Essential skills   Proficiency in VMware Aria Automation
Understanding of ransomware resilience strategies: recovery planning, immutable backups, and air gapping
Knowledge of security hardening best practices

Experience with Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and privilege management
Understanding of common malware techniques and attacker behaviour

Experience with vulnerability management and risk assessment
Understanding of cryptography, certificate handling, and secrets management
Ability to implement and manage network segmentation
Desirable   

Experience with Terraform (preferred)
Familiarity with Ansible (advantageous)
