The RoleAs a Senior Scientist, Antibody Research and Technologies, you will drive the design and development of novel therapeutic antibody-based formats. Your focus will be on combining deep protein engineering expertise with immunological understanding, translating molecular designs into functional biological activity.
This is primarily a scientific leadership and coordination role rather than a hands-on laboratory position. You will independently drive research projects by developing study plans, reviewing and interpreting experimental data, and guiding a Research Associate in the execution of functional assays. You will connect protein engineering, immunology, and assay biology, bringing the different scientific contributions together into clear conclusions and next steps.
You will join a collaborative team working to create the next generation of antibody-based therapies for cancer and other serious diseases. We are looking for a creative and pragmatic scientist who enjoys solving complex protein engineering challenges, works well across disciplines, and can maintain scientific direction and momentum within a project.
Responsibilities- Independently drive protein engineering research projects from scientific concept through experimental validation.
- Design novel antibody-based formats based on a strong understanding of protein structure, function, and therapeutic mechanism of action.
- Translate protein engineering concepts into relevant immunological hypotheses and functional assay strategies.
- Develop clear study plans and guide the experimental execution of protein biochemical, molecular, cellular, and functional assays.
- Scientifically guide a Research Associate through effective planning, delegation, troubleshooting, and review of experimental work.
- Review, analyze, and integrate experimental data, draw well-supported conclusions, and define recommendations and next steps.
- Connect scientific contributions across protein engineering, immunology, and assay biology to maintain direction and progress within projects.
- Collaborate closely with Research Associates, Scientists, and Senior Scientists across multidisciplinary discovery and technology teams.
- Communicate complex scientific findings clearly to project teams and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify emerging developments in protein engineering, immunology, and therapeutic antibody technologies and assess their potential application within Genmab.
- Train and mentor colleagues in relevant technologies and the scientific principles underpinning the research.
- Build and maintain productive collaborations with academic and industry partners.
- Ensure that research activities and documentation comply with applicable procedures, quality standards, and data-integrity principles.
- A Ph.D. in protein engineering, structural biology, molecular biology, biophysics, immunology, cell biology, oncology, or a related discipline, together with relevant postdoctoral and/or industry experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Deep expertise in protein and/or peptide engineering, preferably involving antibodies or other therapeutic proteins.
- A strong understanding of immunology and the ability to translate engineered protein designs into biologically relevant functional assays.
- Experience with cytokine and cytokine-receptor biology is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of biological and chemical conjugation technologies and their application to therapeutic modalities is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop study plans, drive scientific projects, and maintain progress across multiple contributors.
- Experience supervising, training, or scientifically guiding Research Associates, including the planning and review of experimental work.
- Contributions to protein engineering research demonstrated through industrial research programs, peer-reviewed publications, patent applications, or invention disclosures.
