As an Electrical / E&C Systems Engineer at JCB, you'll play a key role in shaping the next generation of world‑class off‑highway machines. Working at the forefront of electrification, automation, connectivity and advanced machine control, you'll take ownership of critical electrical and electronic systems that directly influence machine performance, operator experience and customer value.
This advert supports multiple upcoming opportunities across JCB’s engineering divisions. Successful candidates will be considered for suitable Development Engineer positions aligned to their skills and experience.
This is an opportunity to combine hands‑on engineering with system‑level thinking, contributing to products that are designed, tested and seen in action across construction, agriculture and industrial applications worldwide. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping machine functionality, ensuring systems meet performance, reliability and safety requirements while supporting delivery to programme targets.
You’ll also have the opportunity to work on emerging technologies including connected machines, intelligent control systems, advanced diagnostics, electrified powertrains and next‑generation machine architectures.
Electrical system ownership- Own the development and evolution of key machine systems, from concept through validation and production, influencing how operators interact with and experience JCB products worldwide
- Define and develop electrical architectures, including ECU allocation, CAN network layouts and sensor/actuator integration
- Ensure designs meet functional, environmental and reliability requirements
- Work alongside some of the industry’s leading specialists in software, controls, hydraulics, mechanical design and advanced engineering to deliver integrated machine solutions
- Ensure seamless interaction between ECUs, embedded software and machine‑level functionality
- Integrate and validate CAN‑based communication and diagnostic systems
- Capture, manage and maintain traceability of system requirements throughout the V‑cycle
- Develop key documentation, including electrical specifications, interface definitions (CAN signals, I/O mapping) and diagnostic strategies
- Define and execute validation plans (DVP&R) for electrical systems
- See your designs come to life through hands‑on testing activities, from laboratory rigs to full machine trials in real‑world operating environments
- Investigate challenges, validate solutions and directly influence final machine performance
- Use CAN tools to verify system behaviour and diagnose issues
- Lead structured, system‑level fault investigations
- Analyse CAN data, logs and machine performance to identify root causes
- Drive corrective actions in collaboration with cross‑functional teams
- Support delivery of systems in line with timing, cost and quality targets
- Contribute to design reviews, gateway processes and change control
- Work closely with suppliers on components such as ECUs, sensors and wiring harnesses
You hold a degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic Engineering (or similar)
You have at least 2 years’ experience within off‑highway, automotive or mobile machinery environments
You have a strong understanding of electrical architectures (12V/24V systems), CAN/J1939 communication and control system fundamentals
You are confident in system integration, machine testing and electrical fault finding
You’ll stand out if you also have:- Experience with tools such as CANalyzer, CANape or other Vector tools
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 13849 / ISO 26262)
- Understanding of wiring harness design and EMC considerations
- Take ownership and accountability for your systems or features
- Are comfortable working both hands‑on with machinery and in a desk‑based engineering environment
- Communicate effectively across disciplines including software, mechanical and hydraulics teams
- Apply a structured, data‑driven approach to problem solving
- Are pragmatic, proactive and focused on delivering results
