About the Position
This is an exciting opportunity for an SHO position in an internationally recognised hospital. We are a regional centre for cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, and a national centre for adult heart and lung transplantation. We are located on the outskirts of London, UK, and have a well‑established and large primary PCI service supplying a wide region, including some of west London, and a number of the counties bordering London.
Responsibilities- Exposure to almost all aspects of adult cardiology, including new advancing technologies, managing both cardiology in‑patients and out‑patients, with educational, research and audit opportunities.
- Admit and care for cardiology patients on a day‑to‑day basis, covering short‑term investigations and longer‑term treatment; emergency cases admitted daily incorporating all aspects of tertiary centre cardiology.
- Maintain professional liaison with colleagues, nursing, para‑medical and administrative staff.
- Work a partial shift rota (subject to change) and provide resident night cover at SHO level.
- Carry a cardiac arrest bleep on call; receive local resuscitation training and completion of the ALS course is supported.
- Provide cover for the absence of colleagues during annual and study leave.
- Emergency management of all acute cardiac conditions.
- Attend and present at MDTs.
- Communicate with primary and secondary care teams to plan safe and appropriate patient discharge.
- Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement activities.
- Gain experience in non‑invasive cardiac investigations and assisting at cardiac catheters.
- Gain experience in procedural techniques including central line insertion, pleural taps and cardioversion.
