Hillingdon Music Service provides specialist music education in schools and at Music Service centres throughout the borough. Tuition takes place during the school day, after school and on Saturdays, supporting the aims of the National Plan for Music Education and providing high-quality musical opportunities for children and young people.

This is an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of musicians while working as part of a dedicated and supportive team. Depending on your experience and specialism, you may teach individual students, small groups, whole classes, curriculum music lessons or lead ensembles and choirs.

You will
  • Deliver engaging, high-quality music lessons that meet the needs of individual learners and groups.
  • Inspire children and young people to develop their musical skills, confidence and enjoyment of music.
  • Plan, deliver, assess and monitor learning activities that support student progress and achievement.
  • Maintain accurate records, registers, reports and administrative information.
  • Communicate effectively with schools, parents, carers and Music Service colleagues.
  • Contribute to performances, enrichment activities and wider Music Service projects.
  • Support students in working towards musical qualifications and performance opportunities where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and enhance the Music Service offer.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, safeguarding and conduct at all times.
  • Engage fully in training and continuous professional development opportunities.
Depending on the nature of your teaching role, you may also
  • Deliver one-to-one or small group instrumental, vocal or theory lessons.
  • Teach whole-class instrumental programmes in schools.
  • Deliver curriculum music lessons across Key Stages 1 and 2.
  • Lead choirs, bands, orchestras and other musical ensembles.
  • Develop teaching resources, lesson materials and schemes of work.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents and schools.
About You

We are looking for highly motivated, dynamic and committed musicians who are passionate about music education and helping children and young people achieve their potential.

You may be a specialist in a particular instrument, genre or phase of education, or a versatile musician with experience across a range of teaching settings. Above all, you will be committed to delivering excellent musical experiences and outcomes for learners.

The ideal candidate will
  • Be an accomplished musician with strong subject knowledge in their specialist area.
  • Have experience of teaching children and young people, either individually, in groups or whole-class settings.
  • Be passionate about helping students progress from any starting point.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be organised and able to manage lesson planning, administration and school liaison effectively.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability and excellent punctuality.
  • Be able to travel between multiple teaching locations where required.
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Be enthusiastic about continuous professional development and improving their practice.

Whether you are an experienced music educator or looking to further develop your teaching career, we offer a supportive environment with opportunities to broaden your skills and experience across a wide range of musical settings.
