Section Manager - Plumbing, Gas and Renewable Energy

Uxbridge

£47,939 to £52,165 + Industry Sector Payment of up to £5,000 on top of salary for a strong candidate.

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking passionate and skilled professionals to join our team and help shape the next generation of tradespeople.

Reporting to the Head of School for Engineering – Technology and Innovation, in this newly created post you would provide leadership for a team of Lecturers, manage study programmes and develop provision across the Section. You would teach across a range of programmes according to your specialism. You would also continue to increase and develop our links with employers, which are integral to successful student work placements and course enrichment.

Qualifications
  • Level 3 qualification in Plumbing or Heating (NVQ or C&G Advanced Craft)
  • Full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (DET or equivalent)
  • Successful teaching experience in Plumbing, preferably in Further Education
  • Curriculum co‑ordination and development experience
  • Experience of improving teaching, learning and assessment
  • Experience of leading/supervising a team
Duties Marketing and Recruitment of Students
  • Organisation and guidance of student recruitment activities.
  • Liaison with internal and external teams, organisations and parties as directed by the Head of School to ensure effective recruitment.
  • Ensure staff attend promotional events and activities, contributing to promotion of the School and section.
  • Support for Students
  • Implementation of the College’s Tutorial Policy, including effective use of Attendance Coordinators and named tutors.
  • Implementation of the College’s Basic Skills strategy.
  • Sharing, organising and updating of resources accessible to staff and students.
  • Implementation of the College Careers and Guidance Policies.
  • Liaise with the Student and Learning Support team to ensure maximum benefit to students.
  • Design and Delivery of Programmes
  • Teach on a range of courses across 16 hours per week (teaching hours annualised).
  • Co‑ordinate and advise on course materials production, including schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules.
  • Develop and implement new schemes, including submissions to awarding bodies.
  • Implement College policies for curriculum delivery including Functional Skills fully.
  • Maximise use of e‑learning within the curriculum.
  • Integrate employer involvement to maximise employability skills and support school/section employability targets.
  • Ensure students attend and achieve across all areas of their study programmes including maths, English and work experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    • Recent successful teaching experience in Plumbing
    • Some management or team leadership experience
    • Up‑to‑date knowledge of the relevant subject area
    • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with employers
    • Experience of managing, coordinating and developing the curriculum
    • Ability to improve and maintain high standards of teaching, learning and assessment
    • Understanding of quality assurance and ability to implement quality improvement systems/processes
    • Understanding of curriculum and funding issues

    • The ability to engage, motivate and inspire learners
    • Ability to engage vocational learners and adapt teaching to meet a range of levels and needs of learners
    • Ability to plan, deliver and assess lessons effectively
