Section Manager – Mechanical Engineering

Uxbridge

Full time and Permanent

£47,939 - £52,165

Reporting to the Head of School for Engineering – Electronic and Mechanical, you would provide leadership for a team of Lecturers, manage study programmes and develop provision across the Section. You would also teach 16 hours per week across a range of programmes according to your specialism and further develop our links with employers.

We are seeking someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the Further Education sector
  • Successful teaching experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience of Further Education programmes
  • Curriculum management, co-ordination and development experience
  • Experience of improving teaching, learning and assessment
  • Experience of leading/supervising a team

Purpose of the post:

The purpose of the post is to ensure the recruitment, retention and achievement of students within the post holder’s area of responsibility, and to manage the curriculum and staffing arrangements for a cluster of courses. The Section Manager will also develop and integrate provision across the School to reflect the needs of local industry and teach on a range of courses.

The post of Section Manager for Mechanical Engineering, involves considerable subject-based and pedagogic knowledge and understanding, and it is therefore essential that the post holder has a motivation for keeping themselves up-to-date with developments in their professional area and also in the practices of teaching and learning. As a Section Manager you will be expected to act as a role model to lecturers and team leaders, and deputise for the Head of School in carrying out their duties.

All post holders are expected to consistently review and assess their performance alongside colleagues and engage in positive and critical debate on pedagogic issues. All staff must be committed to inclusive learning and ensuring that they take on the very best practice to meet individual learner needs including the promotion of equal opportunities.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • English and Maths at GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve
  • Minimum of Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the Further Education sector (e.g. PGCE for FE or Secondary, DET)**
Knowledge,

Skills and Experience:
  • Successful teaching experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to plan, deliver and assess lessons effectively
  • Ability to improve and maintain high standards of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Knowledge and experience of Further Education programmes
  • Experience gained within the Mechanical Engineering industry
  • Leadership/supervisory experience
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the relevant subject area
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with employers
  • Experience of managing, co-ordinating and developing the curriculum
  • Understanding of quality assurance and ability to implement quality improvement systems/processes
