Mission of Role
:
To perform stress analysis on primary composite and metallic structures using hand calculations and FEA.

Reports to: VP, Engineering

Primary Areas of Responsibilities
:

• Perform stress analysis on primary composite structures and metallic components using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEMAP, Nastran, linear and non-linear FEM creation and validation)
• Support production and field support efforts. Assess damage and issues, define and substantiate repairs
• Verify preliminary analyses of design engineers
• Suggest design changes to meet functional, strength, and weight requirements
• Write stress reports, structural test plans and test results. Support compliance testing
• Extract geometry from Creo (Pro/E) CAD models

Required Experience &

Education:

• B.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering
• 3+ years of directly applicable aircraft or similar weight critical structures, performing hand calculation stress analysis (per approved stress methods: Bruhn, Niu, etc.) and FE analysis (FEMAP/Nastran, Linear/Non-Linear analysis) on composite and metallic structures (primary and secondary)
• 2+ years using any high-level CAD system but Creo (Pro/E) is preferred
• Strong structural intuition for light aircraft
• Extremely detail oriented and weight sensitive
• Practical – good Design for Manufacturing awareness
• Strong communication skills and highly collaborative

Ideal

Experience:

• Experience with composite material qualification or testing
• Experience with metrology, interpretation and /or operation
• Evaluation of technical options against schedule and budgetary constraints
• Aerospace product and industry experience/knowledge. Aerospace tooling experience, aerospace design experience
