About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned Payroll Manager who thrives as a hands-on individual contributor and owns the end-to-end payroll lifecycle with precision. This is a depth-over-breadth role: you will be the single point of accountability for accurate, compliant, on-time payroll for single office workforce. The ideal person has run payroll in a service or captive environment, has been through a payroll ERP implementation or migration, and brings a zero-defect, control-first mindset to statutory compliance.
Responsibilities
Own the complete monthly payroll cycle end-to-end — inputs, validation, processing, reconciliation, disbursement, and post-payroll activities — with zero-defect, on-time delivery.
Manage accurate income tax computation (old and new regimes), investment declaration ETDS and Form 16 / Form 24Q filings.
Ensure full statutory compliance across PF, ESIC, Professional Tax, LWF, Gratuity, NPS, and Bonus, including timely challan generation, returns, and registrations.
Administer full-and-final settlements, gratuity computation, leave encashment, and exit payouts within defined SLAs.
Partner with auditors on statutory, internal, and SOX / ICFR where applicable.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll queries, building a reputation for responsiveness and accuracy.
Maintain payroll controls, documentation, and audit trails; drive continuous process improvement and automation.
Manage payroll vendor / managed-services relationships where applicable, holding them to compliance and SLA standards.
Qualifications
10+ years of dedicated payroll experience, with a strong track record as a hands-on individual contributor (people-management is not the focus of this role).
Proven background in a services, captive / GCC, shared-services, IT / ITES, or BFSI setup; this role's complexity is suited to a non-manufacturing payroll background.
Deep, current expertise in Indian statutory compliance, with a demonstrated track record of timely, accurate filings and no material compliance lapses.
Exceptional at tax calculation accuracy and able to explain computations clearly to employees and auditors.
Graduate / Postgraduate in Commerce, Finance, or HR; professional payroll / tax certifications are a plus.
Required Skills
Experience through a payroll ERP / HRMS implementation or migration (e.g., SAP Success Factors / Employee Central Payroll, Oracle / People Soft, Workday, Ramco, Darwinbox, ADP, greytHR, or similar) — whether as a functional contributor, in requirements and UAT, or through parallel runs and post go-live stabilization.
Comfortable validating system configuration, reconciling parallel runs, and stabilizing payroll after go-live.
Strong advance Excel and reconciliation skills; ability to work with large datasets and build control reports.
Preferred Skills
Precision and ownership — treats accuracy and timeliness as personal accountability.
Deep statutory and tax knowledge with the ability to interpret and apply changing regulations.
Strong reconciliation and analytical rigor; control-and-audit mindset.
Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive compensation data.
Self-directed operator who delivers without requiring a team beneath them.
Pay range and compensation package
Details regarding pay range or salary or compensation will be provided during the interview process.
