Refinery Operations Director at Petro Star Inc.
Reporting to:
Assistant Refinery Manager.
Work Schedule:
12‑hour days, 14 days on / 14 days off rotation, primarily day shift.
- Represent management’s goals and oversee day‑to‑day operation of all process units onsite to meet volume and yield goals as directed by the Refinery Manager.
- Direct operators to ensure units, equipment and personnel operate safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all personnel adhere to established Health and Safety procedures and programs.
- Ensure refinery remains compliant with all applicable environmental regulations.
- Communicate and achieve consistent operating principles across the different crews.
- Evaluate and develop technical training needs of operators; schedule and conduct training programs to ensure competence.
- Conceptualize and implement operational programs to improve process safety management, operating procedures and training.
- Assist operators in troubleshooting unit problems and collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to implement engineering solutions.
- Maintain key components of the refinery’s Process Safety Management program, including procedures, training and Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews.
- Manage 32 refinery operators; monitor staffing and vacation schedules; work with Human Resources for employee relations.
- Collaborate with Lead Operators to develop detailed work lists for yearly shutdowns, coordinating vendors, contractors and timelines.
- Conduct yearly performance evaluations for each operator.
- Monitor TAPS activity and respond to operational changes.
- Communicate with off‑site power generators regarding their operation.
Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Supervise all employees within the department, including interviewing, hiring, coaching, training, addressing and resolving employee concerns, planning and directing work, assessing performance and holding employees accountable.

- Minimum B.A. degree or ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
- Minimum of 10 years’ industrial operations experience or 5 years of experience with a Technical Degree.
- Minimum of 2 years’ direct management experience.
- Petrochemical/oil refinery experience required.
- Experience in PSM and Incident Command preferred.
- Excellent computer skills:
Windows, MS Office, SQL & Destiny preferred.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityApply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; solve problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel. Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance. Must frequently lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities include the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a busy office setting; noise level moderate. The employee be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
