Armed Security Officer: Valdez Marine Terminal

Job Summary

Security Officer – Provide protection of personnel and assets at the Valdez Marine Terminal, AK. This is a rotational 2‑week on / 2‑week off schedule, working 12‑hour days, 7 days a week. Estimated annual pay: $78,100 – $81,850.

• Perform searches of people, vehicles, vessels, buildings, and large outdoor areas, including long periods of walking and uneven terrain.
• Use clear communication skills to give information, mediate disputes, advise on processes and rules, and de‑escalate altercations.
• Gather information in investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements; document findings accurately.
• Exercise judgment in determining appropriate action for reasonable suspicion detain, probable cause arrest, and use of force.
• Maintain composure and control in hostile environments, enduring verbal and mental abuse.
• Operate a motor vehicle day and night under various weather and traffic conditions.
• Conduct visual surveillance for extended periods and observe distinguishing characteristics of persons, suspects, vehicles, and property.
• Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering emergency medical aid and evacuating people; must lift at least 70 pounds.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Current State of Alaska Armed Security Officer License or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• State of Alaska Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain.
• Two years of experience as an officer or above with a municipal, state or federal law enforcement agency, military police unit, corrections, or private security company within the past five years.
• Successful completion of a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and post‑offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation.
