Department

The Department of Human Services invites applications for a 12‑month tenure‑track faculty position in Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) beginning July 1, 2026. Candidates will teach courses, maintain scholarly productivity, and participate in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Program Highlights

The COAMFTE‑accredited MFT program is fully face‑to‑face and requires on‑campus faculty. It emphasizes non‑pathologizing, language‑sensitive approaches and works closely with Family Works, a large family therapy clinic providing community services and research opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Teach master’s‑level courses and clinical practica in Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Supervise, advise, and mentor graduate students, supporting their academic progress and professional development.
  • Collaborate with program faculty on curriculum development, COAMFTE accreditation, student recruitment, admissions, and advising.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and professional development consistent with disciplinary standards.
  • Provide service to the university, community, and profession in accordance with VSU mission.
Typical Allocation of Duties
  • Teaching and scholarship: 80%
  • Service: 20%
Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy from a COAMFTE‑accredited program.
  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor‑in‑Training status.
  • MFT license or license eligibility in Georgia.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to a non‑pathologizing, systemic, and postmodern approach to teaching, supervision, and clinical practice.
  • Ability to supervise interns in relational, postmodern modalities and teach family therapy content rooted in systemic theory.
  • Familiarity with COAMFTE accreditation standards and processes.
  • Experience developing or maintaining certificate programs (e.g., medical family therapy, trauma‑informed care, equine therapy).
  • Experience teaching family therapy and supervising MFT interns.
  • Demonstrated record of research and scholarly publications.
Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.

  • Confirmation of credentials.
