Description
The Electronic System Technician works a team of 3 electricians: 2 electrical systems technicians and 1 working supervisor.
- The team is tasked with maintaining all electrical systems at the City of Valdosta’s water treatment facilities. This includes 2 wastewater treatment plants, 36 wastewater pumping stations, and 1 drinking water treatment plant.
- Work entails maintaining and repairing automated industrial control systems and their associated equipment, along with occasional facilities maintenance type tasks such as maintaining lighting and receptacles.
- Networking/IT type tasks, as well as various programming tasks will also be required.
- Overtime/after-hours emergency work is occasionally required.
- Ability to accurately and clearly articulate technical electrical information, questions and/or concerns to coworkers, supervisors, vendors and contractors
- Ability to operate various hand and power tools, test equipment, and laptop computers
- Ability to organize and maintain good condition of spare parts, documents, work vehicle, tools, test equipment, PPE, etc.
- Ability to efficiently document and organize various part numbers, statistics, data, drawings, manuals, job write-ups, etc.
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Class C Driver's License
- Basic knowledge of electrical control components such as fuses, breakers, contractors, transformers, relays, timers, starters, overloads, status indicators, surge arrestors, float switches, pressure switches, limit switches, proximity switches, temperature switches, leak sensors, etc.
- Experience with single phase AC electrical systems up to 240 VAC
- Experience with three phase AC electrical systems up to 480 VAC, including “High Leg Delta” systems
- Experience with 12 and 24 VDC electrical systems
- Ability to read single line drawings and other electrical prints/drawings
- Ability to use a multimeter to safely and efficiently test voltage, amperage, continuity and signal loops
- Ability to work safely and quickly under pressure on time sensitive tasks
- Ability to safely troubleshoot in a live (up to) 480
VAC control panel - Knowledge of proper lockout/tagout procedures
- Awareness of the dangers of arc flash and arc blast and how to select the appropriate PPE for a task
- Familiar with safe hot-work practices
- Familiar with working safely around capacitors, hydraulic machinery and other stored energy equipment
- Familiar with general industrial jobsite safety such as working from heights (on ladders or in man lifts), in trenches, in confined spaces, near open pits/basins, and around machinery and moving parts.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
