Utility Locator Technician

Description

This position is responsible for locating water and sewer lines and other system components.

• Receives and processes locate request; closes work orders in GA 811 database.
• Uses electronic detection device to identify the location of water and sewer facilities.
• Assists contractors in locating water and sewer mains and valves.
• Responds to after-hours emergency requests.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain records of daily locates.
• Performs excavations as needed; lifts manhole covers.
• Performs related duties.

• Knowledge of underground utility locating principles and practices.
• Knowledge of map reading principles.
• Knowledge of GA 811 policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of area streets and roads.
• Skill in interpreting engineering reports, maps, and construction drawings.
• Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
• Skill in the preparation of reports.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
