Position: Behavioral Health Technician (LPT) - Per Diem

Adventist Health Vallejo is a freestanding 61‑bed facility offering short‑term psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as partial hospitalization programs. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the facility provides a variety of treatment programs designed to foster empowerment, connection, and a meaningful life.

Job Summary

Delivers direct/indirect care for individual patients or an assigned group of psychiatric patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Provides patient data collection, therapeutic communication, and assists with therapeutic and recreational activities as needed.

Job Requirements
  • High School Education/GED or equivalent:

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience:
    Preferred
  • Two years' experience in acute or long‑term mental health care hospital:
    Preferred
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) licensure in state of practice:
    Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT):
    Required
Department Specific License/Certifications
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI):
    Required
  • AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS:

Essential Functions
  • Uses de‑escalation techniques and less restrictive interventions; uses seclusion and restraint interventions as needed. Plans for the daily care of assigned patients, evaluates common problems, identifies symptoms and behavioral changes, obtains and reviews medical data, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Processes admissions and discharges; completes intake interviews and orientation as needed. Screens patient/client condition upon admission. Identifies physical, emotional, social and cultural needs.
  • Observes, reports, and documents the effectiveness of interventions. Monitors diagnostic results; reports to the RN. Records observations of patient’s condition, behavior, psychiatric symptoms, vital signs, weight, intake and output, etc., and informs supervisor of changes.
  • Interacts with patients, families and other health care practitioners to keep informed about patient condition. Communicates abnormal symptoms and diagnostic data to appropriate staff. Provides patient instructions regarding safety, personal hygiene and procedures. Assists with education and teaching of patient/problem solving skills. Identifies and reinforces patient/family teaching plans.
  • Conducts routine rounding for patients. Monitors patients and environment for safety. Obtains medication consent forms before administering medications, according to regulatory requirements. Administers medications per physician orders and communicates with pharmacy personnel and nursing staff regarding timing.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
