Direct Supervision of: Kennel staff

Department: Kennel Operations
FLSA Classification: Non Exempt Hourly

Scheduled

Hours:

Full-time, 40 hours per week; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (may occasionally require flexibility)
Scheduled Days Sundays through Thursdays (required)

Computer System: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Shelter Buddy (training available)

Pay Rate: $18.50/hour

Prior experience in a staff supervisory role is required for this job. Applications without demonstrated personnel management in a professional setting will not be considered.

Position Summary
The Humane society of the north bay is a non profit animal shelter that cares for vallejo’s lost and abandoned cats and dogs. We have up to 40 large dogs, 20 small dogs and 20+ cats at max capacity.

We are hiring a supervisor who has compassion for animals and humans, a strong work ethic, and meticulous attention to detail, who will supervise kennel staff during daily operations. The candidate must handle demanding situations and fast changing priorities daily throughout the day.

Although the primary requirements are administrative management, the supervisor will handle animals that are not initially familiar. Training will be provided.

Essential Duties:

• Manage kennel staff through daily operation procedures that ensure training, competency, and consistency in animal care, including feeding, cleaning, handling, exercise, socialization, basic vaccinations, microchipping (training provided), and recordkeeping for each animal

• Ensure staff is punctual and takes scheduled breaks

• Create weekly staff schedules and monitor overtime

• Accurately enter information into the data management program (training provided) with constant updates as necessary

• Assist social media team in posting pet profiles and taking photos

• Schedule and manage spay/neuter appointments

• Coordinate with medical staff to schedule and arrange transport for medical appointments and emergency foster placements

• Work with shelter director to screen job applicants and recommend disciplinary actions & performance appraisals for staff

• Experience with dogs & cats

• Willingness to handle stray dogs and cats (training provided)

Preferred but not required:

• Prior animal shelter experience

• Professional handling of stray dogs/Cats

• Handling scared, ill or injured animals

• Familiar with animal diseases, symptoms, meds

Physical demands include:

• Movement: standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping gear

• Lift up to 40 lbs without assistance

• Transfer heavier loads or animals occasionally

• Sit many hours for computer work

• Fine hand coordination for reporting & data entry

• Good vision and hearing

Working conditions include:

• Exposure to frightened or agitated animals

• Exposure to chemicals: cleaning agents, veterinary drugs

• Exposure to animal waste

• Exposure to noise from stressed or reactive animals

• Exposure to odors from waste, meds, chemicals

• Witnessing abuse or neglect of animals before arrival

• Interaction with upset or angry public witnessing a lost or found pet, an adoption outcome, surrender or owner return process

• Sending animals to a licensed vet for humane euthanasia (if needed)
