Job Summary And Responsibilities
As our Medical Surgical Nurse at CHI Mercy Health Valley City, you’ll excel in your nursing career by providing care to patients admitted to our unit. Most of your patients come in from ER and swing bed, providing you with the opportunity to build on your education and experience.

What You'll Do- Deliver care to 4‑6 patients per shift
- Administer medications, change dressings, monitor vital signs, and chart with timely documentation
- Collaborate with a variety of other healthcare professionals such as social work, care coordination, physical therapy, occupational therapy, lab, respiratory therapy, and imaging
- Perform and document assessments as stated on the patient care plan or as patient condition requires, e.g., admission system assessment, vital signs, intake and output, ADLs, etc.
- Identify discharge planning/education needs as early as possible upon admission, document and plan to meet those needs
- Complete all documentation according to standard operating procedures
- Perform personal cares according to standard operating procedure
- Collect and accurately charge for all patient care items and/or services. Charge sheet is completed at the end of each shift. Assess, identify, and communicate unit staffing needs for current and oncoming shifts and assign admissions and/or transfers based on patient acuity level, nurse/patient ratio, and nursing skill levels
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state of North Dakota
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified through American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- ACLS and PALS from American Heart Association recommended
