Water Distribution Construction & Maintenance Worker IQualifications
Completion of secondary education, or equivalent, and experience in performing heavy manual labor construction and maintenance tasks or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Licensure or Certification RequirementsMust possess or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
Equipment OperatesOperates light equipment to perform construction, maintenance, and repair activities. Examples include loaders, small rollers, air compressors, chain saws, street saws, sewer jets and rodder, vac‑all, mowers, snow blower bucket trucks, and miscellaneous power tools.
Essential Functions of the PositionPerforms water distribution functions; utilizes various water and leak detection devices; installs and repairs a variety of water distribution system components; disassembles, tests, cleans, repairs, reassembles, paints, and installs water meters; replaces large meters in the field; performs water meter reading duties (e.g., records meter readings, maintains records of meter reading reports meters which are not accessible for reading, etc.); operates suction pumps to empty curb boxes of water;
reports apparent property leaks to owners; takes final water meter readings and turns water off for people who are moving, and turns water on for persons moving into residence.
- Operates light equipment to perform construction, maintenance, and repair activities (e.g., loaders, small rollers, etc.)
- Performs facility, equipment, and supplies functions; performs periodic inspections of facility and equipment; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; unloads, transports, and stores supplies; performs minor repairs of facility and equipment (e.g., electrical, carpentry, plumbing, etc.); performs preventative maintenance and routine cleaning and maintenance of facility and equipment.
- Performs emergency functions; notifies Superintendent of emergency situations; communicates with Supervisor regarding problems and emergencies; receives and responds to calls for emergency assistance at all times and in often inclement weather and/or hazardous situations.
- Performs record functions; maintains record of work completed; maintains inventory records.
- May perform duties of Construction Maintenance Worker I (e.g., storm sewers, street department dig‑ups, etc.).
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Performs other related duties as required.
$21.50 per hour
