Job Description & How to Apply Below

Fantastic opportunity for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle while partnering closely with leadership. The role offers meaningful responsibility, exposure to strategic decision-making, and the chance to make a tangible impact within a purpose-driven and values-based organization. Candidates must have CPA designation and at least 5 years progressive full-cycle accounting work experience.

Who- the Company:

Our client is a reputable not-for-profit organization (NPO) doing exceptionally important work for the people and communities of BC. The organization has an inspiring vision and is based on values of integrity, collaboration, mutual respect, resilience, etc. Employees of this NPO get to do very meaningful work while also getting excellent work/life balance. The culture is collaborative, forward-thinking, and supportive of continuous personal and professional development.

If you are a well-rounded Senior Accountant with very strong technical accounting skills, this could be a great career opportunity for you!

What- the Role:

Reporting to the organization’s top finance leader, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s financial records and reporting. The Sr Acct will take care of full-cycle accounting, month/quarter/year-end, financial reporting (under ASPNO), budgeting & forecasting, cash-flow management, and analysis that supports informed decision-making across the organization.

This role offers a balance of hands-on accounting work and analysis, with opportunity to positively influence accounting processes, policies, and systems in the long-term.

Who- the Candidate:

On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a CPA-designated accounting professional with at least 5 years of relevant work experience and a strong foundation in full-cycle accounting.
Qualified candidates will have work experience doing full-cycle corporate accounting and operational accounting in NPO, public sector, or private sector.
Foundational training in a public practice accounting firm is preferred, but not required.
We are looking for people who are detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in an environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Solid understanding of Canadian accounting standards and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience reporting under ASPE (and ideally also of ASNPO).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset and a genuine interest in improving processes and leveraging technology.
  • Professional judgement, discretion, and a high level of integrity.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is beneficial but not required- we’re looking for someone whose personal values align well with the values and vision of this wonderful organization.
How Much:

Competitive base salary commensurate with level of accounting skills, qualifications, and experience, in the range of $76,000 to $88,000, perhaps with some upwards wiggle room for someone with highly relevant work experience. We acknowledge that this is slightly below market for a designated CPA, but please do keep in mind that employment with this values-based NPO comes with better-than-average work/life balance relative to most other senior accounting roles in Vancouver.
The company will provide their new Senior Accountant with a solid overall compensation package, including an RRSP contribution, above-average vacation and sick days, CPA professional development support, and solid health, dental, & vision benefits.
SIGNIFICANT PERK: This organization has a “9-day fortnight program” whereby employees can choose to work a slightly longer workday and then enjoy every 2nd Monday or Friday off work! This is an attractive and relatively rare perk. If an employee chooses not to partake of this program, then the work schedule is only 7 hours a day, Monday to Friday.

Where:

The organization is based in Vancouver, very close to rapid transit. This is currently a full-time in-office role, but there is opportunity for some hybrid flexibility in future (please discuss with SWIM).
