The Law Society of BC is seeking a temporary, full-time Accounts Payable Specialist in our Finance department for a 2.5-month term, with the intended start date of July 13, 2026 and end date of September 25, 2026. The Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist is responsible for ensuring payables are accurately coded, approved and processed, cheque runs are done on a weekly basis, any issues with vendors are resolved on a timely basis, and accounts reconciliations are completed on a monthly basis.

This position also implements, reviews and manages new accounts payable systems, including workflows and moving all AP processes to paperless and Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) capability, with document capture capability, and training employees and managers on the system.

The duties of this position include:

  • Implement, review and manage the new accounts payable systems, including workflows and moving all AP processes to paperless and EFT capability
  • Manage the large volume of accounts payable transactions including prioritizing invoices coming due and aging accounts payable
  • Review of invoices for proper authorization and coding and subsequent processing through the accounting system
  • Review Master Card expenses for proper authorization and coding and preparation of journal entries into the accounting system
  • Process payments by cheque, EFT, or other forms of payment, and circulate to the appropriate approvers
  • Preparation of foreign currency payments including the related calculation and posting of foreign exchange adjustments
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts on monthly basis, including the creation and posting of journal entries as necessary
  • Take deposits and payments to bank as needed
  • Respond to departmental requests for expense information
  • Prepare daily cash flow analysis, including the preparation of transfers between accounts
  • Reconcile Unclaimed Trust Fund and as back up of General Fund and Lawyers Indemnity Fund and USD bank accounts on a daily basis and follow up with bank to resolve any identified issues
  • Responsible for the posting of bank transactions including pre authorized payments, investment income cash handling fees
  • Post all the Corporate Master Card expenses and payments
  • Annual Maintenance of tracking sheet for Benchers and related Committees as well as Hearing Panelists
  • Follow up with vendors and departments for any discrepancies on the vendor’s statements
  • Assist in preparation of year end working papers and responsible for year-end processes such as review of invoices for accruals (if required)
  • Co-ordination of vendor file for maintenance on and offsite
  • Such other duties as required by the Director, Finance

Qualifications

  • Completion of or enrolment in a business/accounting diploma program.
  • A minimum of three years of related practical work experience in a computerized accounting environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, accounting, software (systems) packages and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook and Word).
  • Strong work ethic and a positive team attitude.

The hourly wage range for this position is $32.00 to $34.00.
