Our client is looking to hire a Regional Accountant on a 20-month contract to provide maternity leave coverage.
About the OpportunityReporting to the Manager, Regional Accounting, the Regional Accountant will provide accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and analytical support to a regional real estate portfolio across both development and rental operations.
- Key responsibilities include:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting and analysis, including variance analysis and general ledger reconciliations - Support project budgets, proformas, and financial reporting for development and rental properties
- Record and review general ledger activity, including journal entries, accounts payable, cash receipts, land sales, revenue recognition, cost of sales, overhead allocations, and capitalization
- Prepare job cost, capital expenditure, commitment, sales, acquisition, and other financial reports
- Support financial analysis and due diligence related to potential acquisitions and dispositions
- Assist with annual budgeting and preparation of the five-year Corporate Plan
- Prepare Joint Venture reporting, budgeting, invoicing, analysis, and monthly financial statements, where applicable
- Support interim and year-end audit requests
- Review and analyze financial reporting from third-party property managers
- Monitor receivables, collections, and cash receipt processing
- Review financial terms of lease agreements and support rental portfolio budgeting
- Record land sales and review sales agreements, statements of adjustments, and related financial transactions
- Partner closely with the Regional Real Estate and Corporate Finance teams
- CPA designation is required
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, finance, or accounting
- Strong understanding of IFRS
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong financial reporting, general ledger, reconciliation, and variance analysis experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Real estate or land development accounting experience is an asset
- JD Edwards (JDE) experience is an asset
- Insight systems experience is an asset
- Joint Venture accounting and reporting experience is an asset
- Experience working with third-party property managers is an asset
