Staff Accountant - NRC IRAP Youth Employment Program ut the role Molecularyou is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team as part of the NRC IRAP Youth Employment Program. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with budgeting, and supporting various accounting functions to ensure the financial health of the organization.

What you’ll do
  • Maintain and update financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports, providing insights into the organization's financial performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, collaborating with various departments to gather necessary data.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate payments and collections.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Support the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal laws.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and support as required.
  • Participate in financial analysis projects, identifying trends and providing recommendations for cost‑saving measures.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and records, ensuring easy access for team members and auditors.
  • Provide support to the finance team in various ad‑hoc projects and tasks as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and accounting regulations to ensure the organization remains compliant and competitive.
Requirements
  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a corporate or non‑profit environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, such as Quick Books, Sage, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with team members and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • A proactive approach to problem‑solving and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Nice to have
  • Experience with non‑profit accounting or grant management is a plus.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements in Canada.
  • Certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or working towards it is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools for financial reporting.
  • Experience in budgeting and fore castings processes.
