Position SummaryNUQO Modular is seeking a Certified Safety Officer (CSO) to ensure the highest level of health and safety is maintained across a modular construction project in Burnaby, BC.
The ideal candidate is an experienced safety professional who leads by example and brings a proactive, inclusive, and detail-oriented approach to onsite safety. You’ll be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies, and for fostering a culturally safe and respectful work environment that reflects NUQO’s values.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership
- Maintain and enforce compliance with all WorkSafeBC regulations, local bylaws, and NUQO’s internal safety policies.
- Conduct regular site inspections, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions in a timely, collaborative manner.
- Ensure safety documentation is up to date and complete.
Digital Safety Management
- Use Site Docs to manage all safety forms, inspections, and reporting (knowledge required).
- Ensure all subcontractors and workers are trained and logged within the system.
- Maintain accurate digital records for audits and inspections.
- Promote a culturally safe, inclusive, and equitable job site for all workers and trades.
- Uphold a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, discrimination, or unsafe behaviour.
- Support mental health and well-being initiatives on site.
- Provide safety orientations for new workers and site visitors.
- Mentor and guide junior workers and apprentices on best safety practices.
- Collaborate with site leaders to ensure clear communication and shared accountability for safety.
Community & Environmental Stewardship
- Ensure site operations minimize impact on the surrounding community and environment.
- Uphold NUQO’s standards for low-impact, community-conscious construction.
- Certified Safety Officer (CSO) designation in British Columbia (required).
- 3–5+ years of experience in construction site safety, preferably in modular or residential construction.
- Proven knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and construction safety standards.
- Required knowledge of Site Docs safety platform.
- Experience with incident investigation, safety audits, and safety training delivery.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam is an asset for reviewing drawings in coordination with the site team.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain calm and professionalism under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to commute in the Lower Mainland, BC.
