Overview
THE ROLE — TWO PATHWAYS. Path A is PM / Estimator, and Path B is Estimating Coordinator (Development). The role involves both office and field work, pricing, tendering, and project management activities. The successful candidate will join a Vancouver-based heavy civil infrastructure contractor with a strong pipeline and opportunities to develop careers internally.
PathsPath A — PM / Estimator
You will price work and manage projects, run tenders, and contribute across project delivery and bid development. You don t need hand-holding but will benefit from a strong team and solid pipeline.
Path B — Estimating Coordinator (Development)
You are a Project Coordinator or junior PM with 2–4 years in civil construction. You are organized, technically minded, and curious about how projects get priced and won. You will spend ~12–18 months in the estimating seat learning quantity take-offs, pricing, bid strategy, and subcontractor management, with the goal of becoming a full estimator.
A well-respected, Vancouver-based heavy civil infrastructure contractor that self-performs the majority of their work. Their portfolio includes roads and highways, bridges and structures, excavation and shoring, underground utilities, marine and environmental works, and hydroelectric and energy infrastructure, across BC and beyond. This is a technically sophisticated team with high standards and a track record of developing careers internally.
Key ResponsibilitiesPM / Estimator (Path
A):
- Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates for heavy civil infrastructure projects
- Manage the full tender process from document review through to submission
- Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents for scope and risk
- Support project management functions on awarded work — schedule, budget, subcontractor coordination, client interface
- Maintain cost databases and track bid outcomes
- Collaborate with operations leadership on project planning and handoffs
Estimating Coordinator (Path
B):
- Support senior estimators through all stages of the bid process
- Assist with quantity take-offs and pricing under supervision
- Coordinate subcontractor and supplier quote requests and follow-up
- Maintain bid registers, document logs, and tender schedules
- Attend pre-bid site visits and tender meetings
- Learn estimating software, cost databases, and bid strategy
- Gradually take on increasing estimating responsibility as skills develop
For Path A — PM / Estimator:
- 5+ years in civil construction with experience in both estimating and project management
- Exposure to complex civil scopes — utilities, highways, structures, marine, or hydro is an asset
- Proficient in Bluebeam; experience with Heavy Bid, B2W, or similar estimating software preferred
- Strong understanding of BC civil construction — self-perform contractors, local subcontractor market, municipal and provincial clients
- Post-secondary in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management preferred
For Path B — Estimating Coordinator:
- 2–4 years as a Project Coordinator, junior PM, or similar in civil construction
- Genuine interest in estimating and a willingness to commit to the learning curve
- Strong with numbers, organized, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable reading civil drawings and contract documents
- Proficient in MS Office and Bluebeam; construction software experience an asset
- Post-secondary in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred
