About the Opportunity
Our client is a respected leader in heavy civil construction across British Columbia, with a long-standing reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects with a focus on safety, quality, and performance. As the company continues to grow and expand its project portfolio, they are looking to add an experienced Senior Estimator to their estimating team.
This is an opportunity for a seasoned estimator to play a key role in major heavy civil projects while contributing to the continued growth and development of the estimating department. The successful candidate will work closely with the Estimating Manager and leadership team, with potential career progression into an Estimating Manager role within 6–12 months for the right individual.
The ideal candidate is someone who combines strong technical estimating expertise with leadership ability — a collaborative professional who enjoys mentoring junior team members, improving processes, and helping build a high‑performing estimating function.
Key Responsibilities- Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to prepare accurate estimates and competitive bids.
- Complete detailed quantity takeoffs and cost assessments for heavy civil construction projects.
- Develop project schedules, construction methodologies, and bid strategies.
- Collaborate with estimating, operations, project management, and business development teams throughout the tendering process.
- Analyze contract terms, conditions, and risk factors to support successful project delivery.
- Prepare estimates for complex heavy civil scopes including earthworks, concrete, and infrastructure projects.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and co‑op students.
- Manage multiple estimating assignments while meeting strict submission deadlines.
- Adapt to changing project requirements and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- 8+ years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction.
- Strong background estimating complex civil projects involving:
- Concrete
- Earthworks
- Mining
- Oil & Gas
- Renewable energy infrastructure
- Experience working with major contractors or large‑scale infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methodologies and contract structures.
- Experience with construction estimating software;
Heavy Bid experience is considered an asset. - Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Microsoft Project.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience within an estimating team.
- Experience transitioning into an Estimating Manager or Department Lead role.
- Field experience, technical diploma, engineering degree, ASTTBC registration, or EGBC registration considered an asset.
- Experience working on projects in remote locations.
Senior Estimator: $140,000 – $200,000 annually
